Listen Young Clients Stories
Lauren
“From the beginning Lauren’s mom and dad whole-heartedly embraced the techniques they learned during Listening and Spoken Language therapy sessions. They used opportunities in everyday life to help Lauren develop spoken communication which lead to her reading and writing above her grade level. Lauren responded with joy and creativity, since from her perspective as a young child, she was coming to therapy to play.” Nancy Caleffe-Schenck, M.Ed., CCC-A, LSLS Cert AVT.
Learning to listen and talk is a family affair. In this video Lauren and her friend, Kimberly, play with toys during a Listening and Spoken Language therapy session. Listen to the verbal interactions filled with comments, expansion of vocabulary, questions and answers, story-telling and pretend play.
In the next video, notice how Lauren’s parents use everyday kitchen activities in playful ways while still focusing on the therapy goals. Lauren learns that sound has meaning by turning to the sound of the telephone ringing. She understands and says useful words such as, hot, cup, more. Singing and dancing are seamlessly incorporated into her activities. And everyone is having fun!

Thank you for providing the funding for speech therapy for kids like me. When I first started, people couldn’t understand me and it was very frustrating! Now I can talk very well. Thank you for helping me enjoy my life.
