Question: My child failed the newborn hearing screening. What do I do now?
Answer:
Step 1: Have your child rescreened.
Step 2: If your baby doesn’t pass the rescreening, they should get a comprehensive hearing evaluation with a qualified pediatric audiologist.
Step 3: If your baby is diagnosed with hearing loss, your audiologist will recommend the appropriate hearing devices to help with teaching your baby to listen and talk.
Step 4: Contact us and begin the journey to help your child to listen and speak.
Question: Can a deaf child or child with a hearing loss learn to listen and speak?
Answer: Yes! A child with hearing loss can attain age-appropriate speech and language skills.
Question: When should my child start LSL therapy?
Answer: As soon as possible!The first 3 years of a child’s life are the most important in auditory brain development. Early intervention strongly supports speech language and school readiness.
Question: What is listening and spoken language (LSL) therapy?
Answer: A specialized therapy approach that helps children who are deaf or hard of hearing learn to listen with hearing technology and develop speech and language.
Question: Is LSL right for children with hearing aids or cochlear implants?
Answer: Yes! We work with children using hearing aids, bone-anchored devices and cochlear implants.
Question: Do parents participate?
Answer: Yes. Parents are essential partners. We teach and support you, so progress continues at home, not just in therapy sessions.
Question: What if we can’t afford therapy?
Answer: Listen Foundation offers funding options and financial assistance for qualifying families, so cost is not a barrier to care.
