In the July issue of Pediatrics, a new study was published by Geers AE, Mitchell CM, Warner-Czyz A, et al that looks at cochlear implants and the effects on oral language development when adding early sign language instruction in children under 3 years of age. Listen Foundation was very pleased with the confirmation of the positive benefits of Listening and Spoken Language Therapy. The conclusion of the study states: “This study provides the most compelling support yet available in CI literature for the benefits of spoken language input for promoting verbal development in children implanted by 3 years of age.”
