Dear Friends,

Each year I look forward to publishing this newsletter as it is all about the good news of the past year, highlighting the generosity of our donors, and the new year brings much excitement as it will be the 50th anniversary of the Listen Foundation.

2018 can be summed up in one word….growth. We expanded therapy services as we contracted with the State’s early intervention program to provide listening and spoken language therapy for babies and toddlers in the home. Outreach through our parent-tot program grew with fun outings exploring the Denver area and a great early literacy series by Robert Frantum-Allen, MA.Social activities for this community included rock climbing and bowling for teens, along with Boondocks, a fall picnic, and a holiday party for families of younger children. Our Listen, Learn, & Chat program continues to grow in its goal to network with and support hearing professionals working with children who have hearing loss.

The largest addition to our program offerings was adopting the Cochlear Implant Family Camp when sadly, the Colorado Neurological Institute closed last year. After much thoughtful deliberation, we are excited to carry on the traditions of this nationwide camp within a framework of recreation, education and connection to improve the lives and outcomes of children with cochlear implants.

From an emotional standpoint, Doreen Pollack’s historical induction into the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame in March was right up there. And then, we will never forget the children at our Founders Event who melted our hearts with their smart, funny, and beautifully spoken answers to questions and as presenters during this very special program. Then there is the 2018 Non-Event Chair, Jagger Winkler, whose gripping story of recovery and achievement is just extraordinary. They are the very best examples of Doreen’s legacy.

As we say goodbye to one year and hello to another, we want to take a moment and reflect on the generosity so many showed in 2018 with their time and treasure. Thank you all as our success happens because you cared enough to help make a difference in these children’s lives. That is the best gift you can give; and may you receive many blessings in return.

With gratitude,

Pat Greenway, Executive Director
