Volunteer Headquarters
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Listen CI Camp! Without support of passionate individuals like you, hosting the camp would not be possible. While the application has closed for the 2024 camp season, please create a camp account to receive camp updates and information about our future volunteer opportunities. We hope that you will consider applying for our 2025 programs! The volunteer application will open in late January, 2025.
The program goal is to provide:
- a safe and welcoming environment for our camp families, guest participants and volunteers
- an organized camp with informed, happy guests whose needs are met
- relationship and connection between guests, volunteers, and industry professionals
- assistance to the Camp Director and YMCA staff as needed
- an opportunity for alumni campers to connect and give back
2024 Camp Dates for Volunteers:
June 26-30, 2024 – CI Recipients Entering 5th Grade – 2024 High School Graduates
July 24-28, 2024 – CI Recipients Age 3 – Entering 4th Grade
The majority of our needs are for on-site volunteers for the entire 4-day, 3-night camp session. This information is designed to address those volunteers solely. If your desire is to help in some other way, or you can’t meet the requirements, please contact Janette Cantwell, Camp Director, at Camp@listenfoundation.org to talk about other options or ideas you may have.
WHO: We need volunteers who are interested in families as well as kids and who have some relation to camp, campers, or the cochlear implant or hearing health industry. All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and have one year post high school experience in work or college. Former campers (both CI recipients and siblings) are desired along with students in hearing health related majors/graduate school, and professionals in the industry. Certificates detailing your duties and time spent can be prepared for colleges or employers.
WHAT: Volunteer tasks are primarily administrative, social, and facilitative in nature. The YMCA staff are responsible for our facilities, meals, and most group activities.
Listen Foundation volunteers will lead family icebreakers, help at the information desk, escort campers to events, join kids for activities, and serve as mentors. You will dine with us for every meal, sitting with campers to facilitate conversation and initiate making people comfortable. If you are a CI user or sibling camp alumni, you might be asked to be on a panel; this is purely voluntary. Volunteers with photography skills are also needed.
All volunteers will have scheduled roles and some down time.
WHEN: Camp for the families starts at 3:00pm (MT) Thursday and ends Sunday at 9:30am (MT). Volunteers arrive at camp on the Wednesday immediately prior to their chosen camp session. In addition to a couple of zoom volunteer meetings prior to camp, in-person volunteer training begins Wednesday evening. Additionally, volunteers will meet after all campers depart on Sunday; expect to wrap up about 11:30am (MT). Please do NOT schedule flights leaving Denver before 3:30pm on camp Sunday. We need most volunteers to be at camp the entire weekend. Any exceptions require express permission and planning at the time of application. All new volunteers must attend the entire weekend. Volunteers may apply for one or both sessions.
WHERE: Listen CI Camp takes place at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, CO. (Note: NOT the Granby YMCA near Winter Park.) 2515 Tunnel Rd, Estes Park, CO 80511.
Volunteers are responsible for getting themselves to/from the camp at YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park. Listen Foundation will provide all meals and lodging during your stay. Volunteers are housed on the YMCA campus in hotel-style rooms with 2 queen beds, a pullout twin mattress, and a private bath. Expect to share a room with two other volunteers of the same gender expression.
APPLY: Click on the button below to apply. The button will take you to UltraCamp where you can login if you have previously volunteered or register as a new user if this is your first time to apply as a volunteer.
Please contact Janette Cantwell, Camp Director, at Camp@listenfoundation.org or 214-906-4694 with any questions.
Thank you for your commitment to making a difference in the lives of Cochlear Implant families!
