The listen foundation is proud to join forces with the Colorado Hearing Impaired Program (CHIP) to fund one of our therapists as Oral Communications Consultant (OCC) to the program. CHIP has 115 service providers state-wide that help infants from the moment they are identified with hearing loss to 3 years of age. Our OCC provides CHIP families with information about auditory-verbal therapy and provides support and referrals for families. She also works with the CHIP providers themselves, providing mentoring and training in auditory-verbal techniques so that they can help parents understand that the auditory-verbal approach is an option for their children which gives them the opportunity to learn to listen and speak.
Last year, our OCC program served 15 families across Colorado and provided mentoring and training for 15 CHIP service providers.
